So 50 troops were keeping the peace and removing them is going to lead to a genocide?

Reminds me of the Arab/Israel war joke.

A commander of an Arab brigade sees an Israeli soldier on the top of a sand dune and tells a private to take a squad men and shoot that man.

So the soldiers chase the Israeli over the dune, there is gunfire and a little while later the Israeli soldier is back on top of the dune.

Incensed the general tells a Sergeant to take a platoon and wipe out that damned infidel. So off they go and over the other side of the dune you hear more gunfire and again the Israeli soldier is back standing on the dune not even looking like he broke a sweat.

Now the general is having a fit. He demands that Jew be killed, obliterated and sends his best Captain with a battery of men over the dune. Now it really sounds like a war, there is gunfire, grenades, explosions, machine gun fire and black smoke rising over the dune.

Then as the gunfire falls away, crawling over the hill is a lone Arab soldier, bloodied and waving wildly at the troops yelling...

"Retreat, retreat! There's two of them!"

CBS News had a report this morning from the field in Syria. The reporter said the real danger (besides the slaughter of the Kurds) is if the 10,000+ ISIS fighters who are imprisoned near the border are set free in the chaos. It wasn't clear who exactly would open the doors of the prison and let them out.

My first thought was, why were those ISIS members imprisoned and not simply executed??

The reporter went on and said if they were set free they would soon end up all over the world committing terrorist atrocities. Just like that!

Yeah, the World really would be on board with executing, en mass, 10,000 prisoners. Like that wouldn't spark more problems than it solves.

ISIS doesn't have rules other than to kill every infidel in sight.

That eventually means us.

Kill or be killed, that's a good rule in engaging these maniacs. Destroy them utterly.

No... if we do as they do we are no better.  We have rules of engagement for a reason, they must be followed.  We arent savages, why act like it and justify their bullshit?

Not really we just get away with it because of who we are.  Any country that isn't a dominate power/economy does it and they get crucified.  The US does it and it's just another day at the office.

No we get away with it because the rest of the world put us in this position.  The UN has been asking us to do its dirty work for decades, now they want to act like they werent duplicitous.

The US put itself in this position and jumped the shark some time back as far as being a world leader post WWII to just exerting influence and control.  If we help people complain and if we don't help people complain it's a no win situation.  Meanwhile we spend more than the next ____ countries combined on our military while running deficits.

Perhaps partially true, but i didnt exactly see anyone else stepping up in that time period to kill their economies and help post war era either.
Everyone was fine with us doing it and taking the heat and spending the money while they rebuilt their economies.
It isnt like we forced it on them after all, we actually tried to stay out of that damned war as i recall.

Are you saying that in the immediate aftermath of world war 2 the United States was taken advantage of and is some kind of victim ? And that we are paying today ?

No, im saying the rest of the world was more than happy to let us fill that void so they could invest their money in themselves and in the decades since weve been hung out to dry for it.   No one made us, we were more than willing, but weve been taken advantage of since.

American empire by proxy or what you’re calling “filling the void” has been unfathomably profitable.

Perhaps, but its also the root of most of our issues today as well so, at what price?
Wall street might have gotten rich but main street has paid for it in blood.
Weve lost all sense of who we are, weve off shored everything and outsourced most of what was left in the last 50 years.

We should have listened to the greatest American president, George Washington, who warned against foreign entanglements in his farewell address.

He didn't like political partisanship either. Wise man.
