No. He had a year left on his contract, and the team needed pitching.

Dipoto was dumb for not giving Vargas a qualifying offer. Which continues to baffle me until this day.

That is why I said in hindsight. Our pitching stank anyway that year. Seattle had two years of morales if I am not mistaken.

Definitely one JeDi'd weaker moments as Angels GM. I thought the trade was bad also. We could have had Kendry cheap as well when he went to the Mariners in June '13. Would be nice to have him now wouldn't it ?

I've always been a big fan of Kendry(s), and I wish he were still on the Angels. He'd be a huge upgrade over Cron.

The Mariners had him for 2 seasons only because they traded for him after he signed with the Twins.

Was busting out as an elite hitter when he broke his ankle....never been the same, good but not what he might have been....

His OPS+ this year was 128.

His best year with the angels was in 2009 with an OPS+ of 139.

Outside of the down year last year, he's been pretty consistent.

He never developed into the elite hitter, but I don't think it was a guarantee before the injury.
