The assumption being that Dipoto will bring him on to his new staff and gives some insight into his philosophy.

It also references another article form ESPN from 03/2014 as well, that I've included below,  that references the Angels farm system:

Obviously, its will be interesting to see how hard Eppler works to retain execs like Klentak and Servais

Thanks for posting...good read.

Won't surprise me at all if he follows Jerry to Seattle, in fact I predicted he would leave after the season.

I remember Scott when he was with the Cubs. He always had a reputation as a thinking type guy who would probably go on to manage someday.

At one point the Cubs catchers were Joe Girardi and Scott Servais.

Good read Mulwin! Thanks for posting.

Well, I hope we keep some of our current guys on Epp's team. It will suck rebuilding every 3-4 years.....

I think that's the concern.  Not that we'll start from scratch so much as we will take a couple of steps back from the current momentum we are building in turning around the farm system.  Scott seems to be a solid exec who can get some results if given the time and resources.  Hopefully, Eppler is doing what he can to keep guys like Servais on.

Curious as to whether Eppler retains any of Dipoto's crew.

Continuity is a good thing and if Eppler thinks he can work well with Servais or Klentak or Morris, I'm all for it.....but I'd rather Eppler have "his" guys in place if that's how he thinks he can most productive....we've had enough dysfunction for awhile...

Isn't part of this farm system rankings being so bad is that we have a lot of recent farm system players now on the major league roster?

That's why we dropped significantly in 2012 - Trout was no longer in the minors. After that, we have been horrible and it's not like these guys have been top-notch players. Other than Richards and Calhoun, which players are considered good major leaguers?

Angels farm system rankings:

2011 = 6

2012 = 23

2013 = 30

2014 = 30

2015 = 28

Perhaps it's not such a bad idea if we start from scratch

Maybe the issue isn't Servais but that the Angels usually spend the least amount internationally and have one of the smallest scouting budgets in baseball.

If you aren't spending a ton internationally and you typically don't have high draft picks, then you have to out scout everyone else in order to sign under the radar prospects to maximize limited resources, which the Angels don't appear to be doing.

Maybe the blame of the farm system should be on Dipoto and Servais but I think it really rests on Moreno and the amount he invests in scounting and signing international players

Oh come on, that's a silly way of looking at it. There was an obvious decline in the early years because of the players graduating to the big league club (Trout, Richards, Calhoun etc) and behind them the Reagins regime left zero talent behind. Rebuilding efforts were hamstring significantly by the owner's decision to throw wads of money at big ticket free agents, costing massive draft picks. But the farm system is now in a much better state than it was two years ago, although it was in such a bad way when Reagins left that it was always going to take a long time to repair.
