The good news about Santiago shitting the bed is he did so quickly, so he is available to pitch again soon, considering we just had to use 8-1/3 innings of relief.

The one concern is that Houston is a launching pad, and Santiago has been giving up a lot more HRs since the ASB.

Same thing applies for Weaver and his Monday start in Houston.

In his previous 2 starts, Santiago gave up 2 earned runs over 13 innings.

Santiago will probably be gone this off-season, but NOT because of anything he has done wrong, it's because he has pitched well this season, and will bring more in return than our inexperienced and unproven starting pitchers, or any of our relievers.

I like Santiago, and I expect (as many have and will continue to do), his career will really improve once he gets away from Butcher

His 5.98 ERA and 1.50 WHIP since July 25th is a pretty decent sample size. That's 4 QS in 11 total starts.

 

Trading him would actually be the best option to be honest. Someone will look at his overall stats and see that he's a pretty good number 3 starter under club control and send us a couple pretty good prospects.

BTW my assumption of trading Santiago was based on the Arte saying **** the police and going over the tax threshold to sign Cespedes. And then some bullpen help.

 

Then the Angels get a first round pick and hopefully a good draft. Then they can trade Santa for some prospects to help stock the farm even more.

Salas is fine, he's just misused (not Scioscia's fault).

 

Bring in a guy like O'day and there's no reason for Salas to sniff another 7th inning.
