Surprise! Pujols legs hurting him again - May DH rest of season

Time for Cron to step up defensively, as Pujols may need to PERMANENTLY DH with maybe 30 1B starts a year to give Cron defense breathers.

If this happens where Albert needs to DH 80% of the time Cron will be traded and a first baseman will be brought in, especially if Scioscia stays. This isn't about stepping up, it's about the ability to do it. He can practice all he wants I just can't see him ever being athletic enough to be a very good defensive player. I would almost rather see him be a stiff in LF than a stiff at 1st.

Let's not go overboard on this one.  The guy leads this team with 35 home runs, and 80 RBI's.  He's played at a high level at first base.  He plays hurt, and works hard.  Yes, he is unable to get through a complete season anymore without something serious happening, and I'm not going to salary vs. production because that is always a losing proposition.  But the real problem is depth.  Cron is performing well now offensively, but is not good defensively.  Navarro has no pop, nor is he consistent enough defensively.  If we have to carry Pujols for the next six years, then build a stronger team to support what you can get out of him.  We also should be realistic about how to use him, just because he can play through gobs of pain doesn't mean we should continue to send him out there.  Maybe one answer is to play him a lot less in the early part of the year, and pace him better.  But before we get to any of that, we need to rebuild this roster with a much stronger supporting cast to both Trout and Pujols.

The structure of this team was built by the last 4-5 years of mistakes, some can be corrected easily, but many of them are not easy to reverse and we will have to run the course with them.  It's like trying to turn a battleship, it's not going to happen quickly.  And the first thing on the agenda is to get someone to plot a proper course for the ship, get the GM selected and then keep everyone focused on moving on a realistic plan.  We need to stop looking at the trees, focus on the forest instead, and stop being so reactionary to every negative event.  There are too many fires to run around in a panic to each and every one at once.  Put out some of the easy and obvious ones, but get a plan together and execute.

If his legs keep failing and his number continue to decline he will retire. It might be a couple years too late but he won't play out years 9 and 10.

This is where you have to separate Albert the nice guy from Albert the business guy. Let's fast forward 2 years and you will see that the Angels will still owe him $114M for his final 4 seasons. He's not walking away from that. He will turn into a deeper financial burden because Pujols has a right to sit the pine and be a pinch hitter and or spend numerous stints on the DL.

I believe that he will grab every dime that the Angels are contractually obligated to give him. If he can't perform because of physical ailments they will have to cut him and pay him. You won't see Pujols just leave. His attorney's will negotiate a buyout that will include every dollar he's owed because Pujols will claim that he gave up his health for the game. Stay tuned.

This is just like 2014, except for April 2014 being that season's one really good month for him and the month leading up to the 2015 ASB being really good for 2015.

One great month and 5 months of largely mediocrity at that salary doesn't cut it.

The bright side?

Arte finally learned from his Starry-Eyed mistakes, none of those since Hackilton nearly 3 years ago?

Okay, and just who are you going to replace him with?  And just how do you propose doing it?  Cron is the closest to replacing him, do you want to see him instead of Pujols full time?  This team has a lot of pressing needs, LF, second base, third base resolution, lead off hitter, increasing team speed, dealing with the soon to be free agents (Iannetta, Freese, and Aybar), improving the catching, fixing the bullpen, getting stronger in starting pitchers, etc..  This team is awful about eating contracts.  You can't survive doing that, you just can't.  I can think of about 5-6 things to address that are more pressing than Pujols.  And how about let's start with a GM, LOL.

Of course you believe that. You have a list of people that are the villains, most of them are the big money guys, brought in from outside the organization, and you assume the worst.
