This is a golden age for “Theyism.” This is the belief that there is some malevolent, elite “they” out there and “they” are destroying life for the rest of us.

Sanders starts with a truth: Workers need more bargaining power as they negotiate wages with their employers. But then he blows this up into an all-explaining ideology: Capitalism is a system of exploitation in which capitalist power completely dominates worker power. This ideology crashes against the facts.

As Michael Strain of the American Enterprise Institute puts it, capitalism is doing what it’s supposed to do. It’s rewarding productivity with pay, and some people and companies are more productive. If you improve worker bargaining power, that may help a bit, but over the long run people can’t earn what they don’t produce.

This appears to be lost in the discussion of pay equality and that is productive equality; you have to bring something to the table to be of value, not just clock in for your hours. Theyism for Sanders is our entire economy is flawed because there is money to be made and that is being controlled by the elite but neglects to consider people like Gates, Zukerberg or Musk were not the elite when they started their mega corporations. They worked for it and it worked for them. Those drawing pay from their work product shouldn't expect to receive benefits disproportional to their production.

Are we going to start assigning WAR numbers to people? For example, if you're Adam, you're basically the Mike Trout of the working world, so you average about 9.8 workers above replacement a year. But if you work at McDonald's, you're at about 0.6 WAR per year at best, which is replacement level. 

Stradling is a great worker too. He had a 6.7 WAR in 2019, however fWAR (Fry workers above replacement) had him at 4.9 because his fries suck.

Why senators are drinking milk on the Senate floor

Sen.  Tom Cotton was spotted earlier today drinking two glasses of milk with some chocolate he was sneaking from under his desk.

Surprisingly, milk and water are the only beverages allowed on the Senate floor during the impeachment trial.

So why is milk, and not coffee? The reason is simple: It was designed to help senators with ulcers.

According to Alan Frumin, the former Senate Parliamentarian and CNN contributor, a precedent from Jan. 24, 1966, stated, “Senate rules do not prohibit a Senator from sipping milk during his speech.”

Frumin says this is a “precedent” and not a formal “rule” of the Senate.

GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who is a physician, said the practice was started to aid senators suffering from peptic ulcer disease because “way back when, in the ‘50’s” there was no treatment for the condition other than drinking milk.

“There was no medicine for pectic ulcer disease so people would drink milk and so the senators were allowed to drink milk because they had ulcers,” he said. 

Cassidy said all senators know they can’t bring outside drinks on the floor. But once there, sparkling water is also served in addition to water and milk. 

He said snacks and coffee are available in the cloakroom but the coffee is “as a rule awful.” 

“It’s miserable coffee. You would wish it on a Democrat but no one else,” he said. “Just joking.”
