Play the hot hand until it cools. Don't sit him just because there's a righty on the mound. Scioscia is obsessive about these match ups, and it's bad. Murphy should play left field against a righty, not DH, and DeJesus needs to ride the pine. He's not hitting at all. Cron should DH or play 1st base, every day. Langston himself was wondering today why Cron isn't playing every day.

 

Go with your best hitters, and stop it with the obsessive match ups!

The FO didn't trade for Cron.

 

The FO also thought DeJesus would hit. He isn't. But he's a left-handed batter, and that's precious for Scioscia no matter the .091 batting average since he got here.

Just stop it already. The FO didn't trade for Cron. Scioscia doesn't care if he's hitting well. If there's a righty on the mound, Cron sits. Oh there might be an occasional exception, but most of the time it's match ups!

No your right ... they took on payroll for Murphy, Jesus, and Victorious. These guys are veterans who the FO believed would help the team.

I think many managers use match ups in their game plan.  I also suspect that they use scouting reports and stats in conjunction with their match up decisions.  I do not get the perspective that Scioscia does that.

I think losing (L) or playing (P) -  Trout (P), Pujols (P), Aybar (L/P), Iannetta (P), Freeze (L), DeJesus (P), Robertson (L), Richards (P), Wilson (L/P), Shoemaker (P), Bedrosian (P), Morin (P), Featherston (P), and Victorino (P) the last three weeks hurt the team more than people realize.  Underachievement hurts.  Lack of depth when injuries happen hurts.  When you're thin you're not going to grin for long.
