The Angels are on pace to win 89 games, their biggest competition in the division is a team pretty much no one thought would be a threat this year and if the season ended last night they'd be a wild card team.  Not sure I made a win prediction before the year but they're ahead of any expectations I had.  I'm anything but disappointed.

I would include Aybar in the core.  A top defensive SS that can hit and run, a core attribute for any good team.  Pujols mostly because of his lifetime contract.  He breaks up the ground out/popup monotony with the occasional solo HR, has struggled with RISP (~.220), but has played stellar D.

 

Re Richards, don't forget the guy is fresh off a devastating leg injury.  His velocity is back, but his accuracy and offspeed stuff is not yet pre-injury quality.  He'll get there, just too much talent to do otherwise. 

 

Trout, Calhoun, Richards, Aybar, Pujols with encouraging performances by Johnny G, Heaney, Ramos, Santiago bode well for the future.  The recent pickups are generally a yawn, reminiscent of the Joyce, Iannetta mentality.  Has anyone noticed Freese is on the DL?

Pujols would be a solid 5 or 6 hitter. Right now hes a one dimensional power hitter. Hes basically Adam Dunn but with reasonable strikeout numbers and a little higher batting average.

I took my rose colored glasses off a long time ago....The Angels have to keep their core together, and hope for some change for next year....I'm tired of saying crappy players playing above expectations, so we think we are a playoff team.
