Phillies trade Hamels to Rangers, sources say

Redondo

Recommended Posts

They got 3 top hundred prospects, how can it be dumb? The team needs to rebuild.

Sure, the Phils got a couple good prospects, but they just traded their ace. Now they have a huge hole in their rotation.

Is Jerome Williams their ace now?

Texas didn't make this move for 2015. It was for 2016 & 2017, since Yu will be back.

I agree. But it doesn't hurt their chances*. As other guys stated, they're definitely not out of it yet.

EDIT: This year*

But when you see a guy with a career BABIP of .306 suddenly put up a number 40 points higher, and his pull rates and ISO drop, it may be a sign.

So he's having more balls fall in for hits the other way, for less bases, which translates to singles the other way:

He's beating the shift. Which accounts for his high AVG.

Thanks for the # crunch there.

didn't Hamels have a no-trade he was willing to waive for TEX?

Hamels' 20-team no-trade clause did not include the Rangers, who in recent days emerged as the favorite to land the pitcher. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros were also said to be in the mix. According to USA TODAY, Hamels rejected a potential deal to the Astros, one of the teams covered under his no-trade clause.

Do the Angels even have the equivalent talent to match the Rangers deal?

Nothing remotely close position player wise.

Which is why, although Stoneman frustrated me for years with his inactivity at the trade deadline, he really was in a tough spot this time. Cleaning out the few premium prospects we have (pretty much all pitchers) for a big contract like Hamels or a rental like Price could really have handicapped the new GM this fall....Let's hope the pitching holds up and the new OF'ers, combined, are the missing piece for the offense....

Yikes, the Astros with Hamel?

It's interesting to watch...   There are things he's doing that are uncommon for the type of player he is..   He's putting up career highs for O-swing and contact rates and his pull rate has cratered hard -- it's like he's become Ichiro.

He's a power pull hitter turning into Ichiro. That's how you turn around the tail of your career. Kudos to him. If he stays at this approach, it'd stump me lol

Its interesting cause he's such a slow base runner & even worse than Miggy that his high OBP & AVG make him ineffective when he reaches base.

They probally have to like hit a double for him to go 1st to 3rd.
