Turns out #Angels *are* able to release Matt Joyce, even while on the concussion DL. They simply opted to keep him -- for now, at least.

So the Angels are not losing Efren Navarro. It's a weird loophole in the rules that means he has to be DFA'd then optioned. It's complicated

Good to hear Efren is staying put.  The numbers he's put up in AAA as well as his ability to play solid defense at 3 positions and bat left handed would almost assuredly mean he'd be claimed.  The Pirates and Rays love claiming guys like that.

I like Navarro. It's just too bad he hasn't had an opportunity to play a bit more than he has had similar to Green. I think he would have eventually became a solid dude off the bench with the bat. Which is something we don't really need with the trade of all the Vets each has done pretty well as parts and pinch hitters/4th OF'er guys.

Because that's now how rosters work. Joyce is on the DL and releasing him would not have created a spot on the 25 man roster.
