Angels Acquire Shane Victorino.

They could still add a player like Murphy. It looks like the Angels are looking at a platoon situation in LF. Victorino would play vs LHP

Cubs are in contention but their offense has been really bad so I'm not sure Coghlan can be had tbh

Parra/Revere/Murphy would all make sense. Shouldn't cost too much and then they can roll with a platoon in LF with one of them and Victorino. Maybe still add another bat, preferably a left-handed DH so they can have a platoon there with that player and Cron

I will say Stoneman surprised me, he did something....do I expect a deal where we have to give up anything of value? No....maybe Murphy, who maybe could be had cheap....we'll see....

I honestly don't mind given that they gave up nothing and know it's likely not the last move they make but I can't help but read this blurb from sportsline and laugh:

"The 34-year-old Victorino has suffered through an injury-plagued season and has been unproductive over the last two years. He owns a .245/.324/.298 slash line in 2015."

Unproductive, old and cheap in terms of trade pieces...Stoneman probably couldn't say yes fast enough.

Not a bad depth move, I like it, epsecially since Boston is paying most of the remaining money on his contract. With this move and the Gillaspie trade I feel like they have significantly improved the bench. Add a starting LF and maybe another bullpen arm and the Angels will be gtg for the playoffs.

Like the move. No downside and could be effective as a platoon v. LHP if no other moves are made. If a move is made to acquire someone else Victorino can be a good back up player, defensive replacement, pinch runner, etc.

What isn't to like about the move?

And he has a whopping 35 at bats vs lefties so far in 2015.

Arte saw the part about being a 2013 WS hero, and said "Get heem", not realizing that was TWO years ago.

Starry-eyed Arte

What?

This is a depth move or at best a platoon partner in a starting role that will see less time than his counterpart of the platoon.

More than that we added a veteran with Championship experience.

I like the move.

I have no problem with platoons.  The idea here is to use your entire 25 man roster, and then some.  Using a set 9 position players is a pretty old, and outdated, concept.  First of all you are never going to have 9 position players who deserve to play 155-162 games, not to mention if they could stay healthy and mentally sharp for that many games.  As Jeff Fletcher said better than me, the whole concept of fans thinking you can run your best 9 players out there every night is just not going to happen, there are too many factors that bring into play the bench, and full supporting cast.  It takes between 45-50 players to win a championship, not 20-25.
