What would you give up for Price and Cespedes?

....It is unimaginable how Matt Joyce can make me wish for Hamilton.......

I was in the camp that we might as well see if he could work his out of it, mainly because we didn't have much in house to replace him with....But when it's almost August and you're still below .190, it's time to play anybody else, if we don't make a trade....Robertson is a slappy Willits type but he's not a .180 hitter....if not Robertson, give Green an extended shot....there is just no evidence that Joyce is moving in the right direction (4 for 27 in July)....time to move on...

Do people really think the Angels are looking to move CJ Wilson? That's twice I've seen his name as a tradeable piece.

He has no value to any team rebuilding, and the Angels aren't going to move him for a prospect to a contending team when their rotation includes some big question marks (Weaver coming off injury, Shoemaker a one hit wonder, and can Heaney/Santiago keep it up).

Now, re: Cespedes. The lineup is pretty right handed heavy...but if you could get him for a mid level prospect it's something to look at. I don't think you include Newcomb or Heaney in the conversation.

And now I read an article stating the Angels would consider moving him...shows how much I know.

The article was by Alden Gonzales, who along with DiGiovanna and Fletcher, is pretty careful about what he says, so you would think there might be some truth to it....beat writers have to be careful, I guess....I think it makes some sense, largely because we've got so much invested in Pujols, Trout, Hamilton and Weaver that it would be nice to have some payroll space....that said, if we have to eat much, if any, of his salary, it doesn't make sense to me because although he's not terrible, you're probably right that his salary isn't going to make for much of a market....

No interest in Price given the pitching depth the Angels have and the fact that he'll be a FA next year likely getting a deal averaging 20M+ a year.  Cespedes I'd take for the rest of the season if the price is right because Joyce/Navarro/Robertson are terrible.  Cespedes is going to be a FA so there's the risk he's a rental but I read something that said his contract is structured such that if he leaves the Tigers don't get a draft pick.  I assume that would apply to any team he's traded to (maybe not?) but that has to hurt his trade value because any team acquiring him isn't even looking at draft pick compensation if he leaves.

Teams can't give players a qualifying offer if they are traded mid season anyway. He does have a clause written in his contract that the Tigers can't offer him a QO if they indeed keep him.

It's funny...I saw the MLB Tonight guys last night (I think it was Byrnes & Plesac) talking about making a trade for Hanley to play LF (gasp!) or DH (much better idea). I think they were just throwing shit against a wall and seeing if any stuck.

I don't think Hanley would be a bad idea to DH ONLY, and for 3B next year...but you know that it would be just too tempting to trot him out in LF...

They were also talking about getting Kimbrel and moving Street to the 8th inning. So, I don't think either idea has much veracity.

seconded. I don't love Cespedes long term, but I think he could be a useful rental for this year if the price is right. In fact, he's probably more appealing to me than Bruce, due to his familiarity with the AL West.

Given our recent luck with outfielders (Wells, GMJ, Hack, Joyce) trading for a rental might not be such a bad idea. Try him out for a bit and if he performs then sign him! Sure it'll cost us a prospect or two but at this point I'm guessing Arte is tired of it costing him money

For those of you that say certain people are untouchable, I've got a hypothetical. Let's say we trade 2 untouchables like Heaney and Newcomb for Price and Cespedes. All hell breaks loose here but we end up winning the world series this year with help from the 2 new guys. Would you still argue that we shouldn't have made the trade?

I liked to watch Byrnes as a player...

But he needs to STFU. How irritating and uninformed can one guy be? Wonder who he blew to get the MLB network gig?
