Things to do in Irvine

Recommended Posts

Hilarious.

He asks what to do/where to go in Irvine, then goes to the most commercial chain places you can find simply looking at Google maps.

i wanted to go to a movie or two because i had a lot of time to kill. there were restaurants all around, places i like to go to. nothing wrong with that.

So, our plan to convert you to islam, by sending you to Irvineabad, the secret gathering place of muslims in OC, failed?  I was hoping by the end of the night you had bought burkas for your daughter at the faux Tillys (It's really Mustafa's to us locals) and her friend, and took part in the overnight Ramadan celebration.

I did have the game on. Didn't have steak and hot links though. Had Steak and eggs.

i asked my daughter what she wanted to do for dinner. she said "let's go to your friend adam's house." i had to break the news to her that that wasn't going to be possible because he was going to throw dead cows and pigs at us. she hung her head and cried.

Tanker, what flix you see?

jurassic world and self/less. i missed the first half hour of jurassic world and it made absolutely no difference. didn't feel like i'd missed anything. self/less was a lot more interesting.

It's too bad you didn't hit up the improv last night there. It was vegetarian anti-Muslim night. Margaret Cho was the headliner.

she doesn't meet enough stereotypes for me.

i was sitting in the nice comfy outside chairs between the theaters and the improv and could see the video marquee. didn't recognize a single name.

Traffic getting home sucked on the 5 and we didn't make it back until 1:15 am. I hate Caltrans.

I avoid the 5 between the county line and downtown LA at all costs. I don't care if it's 2:30 in the morning on a Sunday I won't drive near it.

Dude, he lives in Glendale. Why would he check in on the brotherhood on his day off?

No it's more like that time Lt. Castillo had to go out of the office, for some tie-in to his Asian military history, and slowly but surely he and Dennis Farina score some women at UCI and drop by one of the many tofu houses or AYCE barbecues, all while a little known musical masterpiece from Falco (known for his Der Kommisar) plays as the underlying track to the main dramatic scene.

DR little-known fact #1: this episode (season 6, episode 4) marks the directorial debut of Olivia Brown, who of course plays Trudy.

DR little-known fact #2: Shiela E plays an uncredited cameo in the UCI pub scene as the singer on stage.

DR little-known fact #3: This episode was actually the alternate script, as Don Johnson protested the original script, writen by Tom Poston (during a hiatus of Newhart.) the original script called for Crockett and Tubbs to investigate a major drug deal on the property of the Old Lion Country Safari, in which smugglers were running drugs and smuggling ivory tusks that they were digging up in the hills.

WTF are you people talking about?! So much to deconstruct here.

But, point of fact, there was no episode to ever take place in Irvine.  Season 5 did have a few episodes which took place in L.A., however (parts of seasons 4 and 5 were shot in LA, but only on stages).

The closest Miami Vice got to Irvine?  No joke:  in one of the episodes there's some stock footage used for an establishing shot of LA.  It's from the Venice boardwalk.  If you look real close, some dude biking by is wearing a Balboa Beach Company t-shirt.

And alas, I have had my picture taken between Isaac Hayes and...Paul Gleason who was in the third season premiere of Miami Vice starring one Liam Neeson.  Perhaps some of you would know Mr. Gleason as "Bender" from the Breakfast Club.  Which also starred John Kapelos as "Carl the Janitor."  He was in the Miami Vice episode "Milk Run."

Thank you.

Perfect response DR. Of course Paul Gleason also shined as the down and out boxer, who owed the mob for gambling losses in a very critically acclaimed episode of the A-Team.
