Richards, Santiago, Heaney, Skaggs, Newcomb...

Recommended Posts

Heaney, Skaggs, Santiago and Newcomb are going NOWHERE.

The only lefty I can see us dealing is Nate Smith.

Others (RHP's), Shoemaker, Ellis, Rhoades, Bedrosian, Salas, DeLoach and McGowin.

Ellis isn't going anywhere, Rhoades is being treated with kiddy gloves, Bedrosian is in danger of turning into Jepsen, Salas is about as truthworthy as former Angels Justin Speier, DeLoach is a lefty specialist in waiting and McGowin is the one guy with upside teams will ask to be included into trades, mostly because the results haven't followed the talent.

A 4 lefty rotation would be awesome for a fan who grew up watching Langston-Finley-Abbott like me.

Uh... Moccasin... I hate to kill your buzz but they were involved in the worst collapse in Angels history.

By the way TDawg, you didn't mention the team with four left handers was the 1995 Angels squad with Langston/Finley/Abbot and Brian Anderson. Abbot led that group with a 4.15 ERA.

Let that sink in to you guys that are gripping about Shoemaker who would have been the third best pitcher on that squad.

I don't remember them having 4 lefties but yeah, there isn't exactly a history of it working out well, even in the short term. The White Sox this year have done well. But Sale accounts for a big part of that.

That team also had four former Cub starting pitchers -- my first taste of the too many ex-Cubs curse...    Sanderson, Bielicki, Harkey and Boskie with Lee Smith thrown in as the closer just for giggles..

I'd add as a side note that most of the other teams in the AL West had big power right-handed hitters that year (i.e. crushing LHP) and even the other big hitters who were left-handed like Ken Griffey Jr. hit well against LHP which would explain why a nearly all lefty staff didn't do real well.

That's part of the reason we have so many good left-handers right now is because a lot of the big power hitters in the our Division are left-handed (Fielder, Cano, Choo, et al). If that changes I'd expect the Angels would trade one or more of our LHP's for equivalent RHP's to balance out what we end up facing each year.

Hehehe, tdawg, what's you definition of "done well?" The White Sox are under 500 and in last place.

I think we'll see Richards, Heaney, Tropeano, Skaggs, Newcomb.

I think we'll see Shoemaker, Wilson, Santiago, and Weaver traded, pushed into bullpen roles, or not re-signed, etc. over the next couple seasons.  These 4 will help bridge that gap.  Nothing new, many of us think this and have posted this.

That still leaves Nate Smith and Chris Ellis.

Skaggs is "proven"?

He is the only player that Jerry Dipoto--the Chuck Norris of the Angels organization--has traded for twice.

Do you think we could pull two of those three guys out of retirement to replace Terry Smith and Roger Lodge?
