Orange County Register: Angels Notes: Jered Weaver doesn't think he'll need a rehab assignment

Recommended Posts

A lot of people who looked at his brother's rapid decline and saw the many similarities between the two.   The reason Jered has been able to last this long is because unlike his brother, he learned how to be more than a thrower.

Whats sad is even Jamie Moyer had a higher K/9 in his 40s than Weaver right now & he was throwing 78mph but right on the pixel of the strike zone.

Remember, the Angels operate under Scioscialism. Even if the Angels had won their last 15 games in a row and all 5 starters were 3-0 during that span, Weaver would get his job back.

Considering what happened with Jered when he first came up, I'm sure he has no doubt that he'll have his spot waiting for him when he is ready to return.

Scioscialism ... funny stuff!

On the real side we all know Weaver will get his job back .,, even if this team was managed by Bochy.

i Agree that he would get his job back in every other organization at this point in the season. However, I don't know if every other organization would let him be the one to decide whether or not he needs a rehab start to prove he's okay to go back into the rotation.

I don't think the Angels are letting Weaver decide if he does a rehab assignment. He said his opinion is he doesn't need one.

When I asked Scioscia and Butcher they seemed much less sure.

My guess is he does have one and they evaluate his stuff in that before making any decisions.

do you think they would put Weave in the pen?

I'd say they'd push for at least one rehab outing.  It will give the team another turn through the rotation and more time to make decisions leading up to the trade deadline.  Weaver WILL be in the starting rotation.  It's not Scioscia's style to abandon his vets.  I feel that any other line of thinking is just wishful.
