World Series of Poker has begun

Recommended Posts

Actually, it began back in May, but I digress.

Ironically, our very own Derek finished 2nd in a bracelet event and Baby Huey there was at his final table and finished 5th or 6th, if I remember correctly. I think Derek won 124k for the 2nd place finish.

He's actually had a great series, teo final tables and some deep runs, and has a healthy stack in the main event at the moment.

Derek is at $55K and is off until tomorrow I think.

Brian Batt 28,750
Randy Coble 18,175
Barry Greenstein 14,300
Christopher Beggs 38,750
Kevin Jonna 60,200
Derek Gomez 55,725
Akib Ali 21,550
Ray Milare 15,350
Richard Lee 114,450

How long is the Main Event running through you think? I'm going to Vegas at the end of July. Wanted to give Derek some support.

Not sure of the structure, but usually around 10 days...I think 7 "tourney" days, but because of the field size they have about 3 day 1's. So probably middle of July then they take a two month break and play the final table around November.

Would be cool if Brian Batt is a typo for Bryan Batt, Sal on Mad Men

Is Derek someone who posts here regularly?  I somewhat follow the poker scene and used to play semi-professionally online on Full Tilt.  I also know a few people that are playing/played the ME this year.  Always been a dream of mine to play a WSOP event.  Hopefully in a couple of  years, once I get my new career under way I can go.

He doesn't post here as much as before, since he moved to Vegas.  But he is pretty well known on here by the old timers.

That's pretty cool, dude.

Many years ago there were enough of us that played (professionally, full time, or recreationally) that we had essentially a poker forum here.....a very watered down 2+2, if you will.

Interested in who you are following during the main. It's always fun to rail friends.

Well that doesn't surprise me, So Cal has a lot of smart people and of course the LA casinos are always full every night with both pros and rec players.  Basically all the players I'm keeping on eye on I correspond through 2+2.  Some reveal their real names some don't.  I thought about buying some action from some of these guys.

That's cool. I signed up there around 2004 (back when Raymer was a reg there dropping knowledge and theory) when they had the old format and since went through a couple user names because I was more of a lurker and would forget them, so not reliable enough or trusted to swap action.

I still keep tabs, but haven't been as active since Black Friday. Although, I it's picking back up as I'm at a new company and Scotty Nguyens nephew is in my hire group and he used to be a full time sng grinder. Haven't really played since playing live cash about a year ago.

But of course, I think we all get the itch around wsop time.

I was still fairly active online, playing on other sites but since the traffic died, sngs and multi table sngs weren't too viable.  I switched to 6 max cash and did fairly well and had a pretty decent winrate.  For the most part the days of 16 tabling from my Full Tilt days are long gone.  I was just glad I got my Full Tilt balance last year.

Nice.

Yeah, the best I ever did ROI wise was post black Friday on Lock, Merge Network. But I liked to drink and play $100+ HU and I'm sure people were lining up. Last year with live cash was just crazy swings with the bankroll, even small stakes. I'd always walk in with 300 bigs, but a couple of straight poor sessions was enough to back me off as I didn't have the time to study and put in the work analyzing hands, lines, etc. to adjust properly.

I was also close to Elsinore Casino before where it was meth heads and people gambling with unemployment checks, so the edge was there. I'm closer to Commerce now and a little worried because I've heard even small stakes have some sharks.

You can play at any $100 No Limit game in So Ca and play super tight and crush.

I would not play the 100 NL game in any LA-area card room, rake is high and the 33 big blind buy in cap is very retarded.  Lowest I would play is the 3/5 300, and even then I'm very leary again due to rake and buy-in structure.

Of course. That makes sense and there are times when you bleed but the players are so bad and so loose that its pretty easy money if you're patient.
