Wait, we have international slot money?  I thought we were tapped out for a few years because we went nuts over that Cuban that wasn't even the best one?

yeah, it's really stupid how they would trade an international slot for some no name pitcher. Maybe it's a dipoto move that happened before he left.

No.  We still have $2 million this year, but because of how much we spent last year, we're not allowed to spend more than $300K on any one player--which really makes the whole pool of $ pointless.  So that's why they're willing to make "trades" like this: because they won't be able to get any impact players from the int'l group.

No we are prevented from spending more than $300,000 on any one prospect. We still have something like $1.9MM in pool money (now less because of the trade).

Actually I like this better to be honest. Using slot money to trade for actual prospects in the Minor League system already might have more value for us in the next 2-4 years anyway. A lot of the other teams are focused on spending their pool money while we use it for trades. Hope we do more.

This trade is almost certainly a remnant from Dipoto's plans before he resigned. Stoneman is back East for his son's wedding or something so this decision seemed like it was in place for a while now and was just executed today on the 2nd when the signing period opened.
