Did Jerry spend a month deciding to leave?

Recommended Posts

Speculation:  He already knew he was leaving when he gave his final pep talk in the clubhouse.   Possibly a last gasp effort to break up the status quo a bit.  The leak made it go terribly wrong.  He probably was going to quietly resign to spend more time with his family or attend to an aging parent etc........  Angels have too  many cooks in the kitchen, he thought he could leave and there would be more than enough to take over..  this did not go according to plan.

The house for sale could be completely unrelated but if I had to bet on it, I'd have to bet it is related to departure.

What about this?  Moreno and Dipoto were already working on his resignation when the incident occurred.  It would have been handled like so many other bland professional resignations.  Best face for all parties.   The date was the day he had cleaned out his office.  The leak threw it into a crisis mode, but the wheels were too far along to reverse course.  Very possible he would have resigned anyway about the same time without the drama.

Plausible theory. What I would like to know what exactly drove him off. Scioscia not using analytics shouldn't cause the man to quit. Obviously a Hamilton was an embarrassment in both his signing and trade. Maybe he was he was frustrated by Moreno's hard salary cap. Maybe he had other moves were vetoed? We're there people put on the roster that he didn't want?

I am trying to understand why quit.....now. Fighting Scioscia over analytics should not of done that.

It is a combination of things. It could have entered his head earlier this year if Arte asked him to be the aggressor with this whole Hamilton situation, maybe he was uncomfortable and it went against his better judgement. Then topped off by the constant issues with Scioscia and finalized with it gettting leaked through the press by what he assumes is someone trying to make him look bad. Is it ideal he quit when he did, no, but to go on and on and on about how he won't be hired, when basically EVERYONE knows it was a toxic environment, well it isn't logical. If a team liked what he did as far as player moves or building pitching depth. Or maybe they just like his analytic approach, the guy will have a job, and it will be sooner, rather than later. If anything he probably gains more respect for not going to the press about whatever the real issues are more than he loses respect for leaving in the middle of a season.

Oh i think he will get a new job soon. I just don't think it will be another GM position for few years.

You're never going to get straight answers on any of this from the people involved, IMO.

And we shouldn't get them. None of this should have been made so public. Yet we want in depth explanations because someone quit in the middle of the season, which is apparently the worst thing anyone could ever do.

This is hilarious. No one here is objective because no one has the facts. Arte hasn't made a public statement. Dipoto has said nothing of relevance all we get is second hand reporting. Do you guys really believe Arte doesn't have his version. One he is keeping quiet to public but certainly will tell his fellow owners.

Do you think when another owner calls Arte and says he is considering hiring JD and want to know what really happened that Arte will say it was all his fault and he wished JD never left?

I am willing to bet 100 right now that he won't be a GM next 12 months from now.

Any takers? The winnings can go to charity.

People who look at things objectively know what kind of job that Dipoto did here and the conditions that he worked under. He will be a GM somewhere next season if he wants it.

Your right it shouldn't have been made public. And had JD resigned with a white wash reason "health reason" etc. Than this would not be a big issue
