Ryne Sandberg resigns as Phillies manager.

His hands were also tied due to RAJR who is arguably the worst GM in Baseball. It will be interesting to see when the fire sale happens there. Should have happened 2 years ago...

This is key...Amaro's mishandling of the org.  Why the Philly owner hasn't stepped in and 86'd his ass is a mystery.  They should have had a fire sale years ago when Utley, Howard, Lee, etc actually had some value.

The 2012 Phillies were on the wrong side of their peak and 2013 further confirmed that fact.  During the 2013 season, they could have found suiters for Utley, Rollins, and Lee.  Same with 2014, they could have moved Utley, Rollins, Byrd, Hamels, and Papelbon.  Now, Utley and Lee are toast with no value.  Hamels, Harang, and Papelbon are your tradeable assets and I don't know if I'd trust Amaro to sit the right way on a toilet seat right now.

He'd forget to but the seat down and would fall in.

Other than the Marlins and Red Sox no team has flushed that many high profile players. The Marlins because the owner is a jackass and the Red Sox distancing themselves from the fried chicken fiasco while getting under the cap.

He didn't have to go "firesale!"...one of those guys each year could have brought them something.  He failed to do it.  He did nothing when it was clear his team was done.

He did well in the Minor Leagues with the Cubs. And seemed to get good results from those players. The Phillies are veteran team and I doubt those guys would do much different even when a HoF'er told them what to do.

Amaro Jr has basically been a puppet for Gillick....  he's been running the show behind the scenes,   Now that he's stepped aside he's either going to get booted or be McPhail's puppet.

Again, when those players had value the team was successful. The problem the Phillies had is they nearly all tanked at the same time. Who would have guessed weaning the leagues of steroids would cause such a crash?
