this was a poor challenge just based upon something that was poorly worded.  All an against vote would have done was screwed a bunch of people who had be guaranteed a subsidy.

Look, I'm no fan of Obamacare but it doesn't take a genious to see that this challenge would have basically only accomplishe one thing:  breaking a contract.

This challenge was always absurd...the best way to sum it up is pretty simple

 

"Without the federal subsidies . . . the exchanges would not operate as Congress intended and may not operate at all."

This is a victory for everybody who thinks its the Supreme Court's job to fix poorly written laws rather than adjudicate what's actually written.

As evidenced from the comment above that if they had ruled according to the actual law, bad things would have happened.

Let's face it. All of the states are eventually going to be on the federal exchange. Covered California, among others, is having financial problems already. The feds have the ability to print endless amounts of money (read, borrow from our children and grandchildren).

 

The government is enormous and getting bigger by the hour, and this ruling simply helps it along.

While we're discussing things that are poorly written, I'd like you to know that I'm strongly considering the notion of sending you to jail for that second sentence.

There is a reasonable argument whether the judicial branch is there to correct the mistakes of the legislative.  Granted the decision relied upon ideological beliefs of the ACA instead.  Scalia's quip about the creation of SCOTUS-Care was a decent one. Funny thing is that this decision works out for both sides. The POTUS keeps his legacy project, Republicans aren't blamed for the mess this could have caused and they still have the ACA boogeyman to rail against. Justice Roberts seems to be a pragmatist so I imagine this was the deciding factor in his and perhaps Kennedy's vote.
