He pitched his ass off, and could have gone longer. The one run he gave up was largely due to Joyce misplaying a ball (subject to interpretation, but I think the route/judgment was terrible). Bottom line: He did a GREAT job.

I will agree with you that he could have gone longer, if the offense scored some runs. Did Joyce misplay that ball? Yes. Could that ball have been caught? No. You could have Erstad in left or Trout in left, and that ball is still a double. It was a line drive to the gap.

I think it was a good idea to have his début in Anaheim rather than on the road.  I sometimes wonder about past practice of having a rookie début on the road, particularly in an intimidating place like New York.

I haven't seen him throw before...I was surprised at how easy his throwing motion is, looked almost effortless, like he was playing a game of catch.

 

I noticed the same thing. 

 

Pretty awesome to be able to play catch throwing 93-94 MPH bullets.
