Many Muslims keep the strict Ramadan fast and drink no water during the day. Temperatures reached 113 degrees in Karachi on Saturday.

That's the standard temperature around here but they don't try to continue on normal schedule. They basically flip the days and nights and avoid the heat of the day. It's going to take a few more years for Ramadan to pass through the summer and get back to cooler and shorter fast periods.

Children aren't required to fast until the reach teen years and women are not expected to fast if pregnant or during those days of the month. Also not required when traveling. Many well placed loopholes in this one.

Also, everyone is supposed to eat/drink if conditions are life threatening.
