So trying to help your team win is now considered bush league. You guys are so comical.

Yes, down six with two outs in the ninth during a perfect game if you lean into a pitch it is bush league. I'm guessing Tabata regrets it, he probably acted on instinct.

You're right.  Never mind the fact that they needed baserunners, he should have just gotten out of the way so Sherzer can get the perfect game.

Playoffs are based on luck and players who try to help their team win are bush league.  I love Angels fans.

I remember Aybar Bunting for a hit when the Angels were down 2-0 against Verlander working on a no hitter in the 7th with two outs.

He lays down the bunt and Verlander creates an error on the throw. Aybar ends up at second and the no hitter is still in place because of the error but Verlander loses his shit and tells him he is going to get beaned the next game he faces him.

Aybar eventually scores on a hit and the Angels close the gap to 3-2 before the inning ends. For some reason Verlander thought he was immune to the opposition using whatever means at their disposal to win the game since he made it to the 7th.

No free lunches. You either beat the other team through all 27 outs or you didn't, the other team has no obligation to make it easy.

Dont tell that to the posters in this thread.  Apparently when a guy has a perfect game going and he decides to throw the ball inside, you have to get out of the way otherwise its bush league.

To compare the two is ridiculous.

Here is the ruling:

"6.08 The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when --
(a) Four balls have been called by the umpire;
Rule 6.08(a) Comment: A batter who is entitled to first base because of a base on balls must go to first base and touch the base before other base runners are forced to advance. This applies when bases are full and applies when a substitute runner is put into the game.
If, in advancing, the base runner thinks there is a play and he slides past the base before or after touching it he may be put out by the fielder tagging him. If he fails to touch the base to which he is entitled and attempts to advance beyond that base he may be put out by tagging him or the base he missed.

(b )He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball;
If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.
"

Tabata made zero effort to avoid that pitch (he even leaned into it). It should have been called a ball. During Don Drysdale's scoreless inning streak, Dick Dietz was hit by pitch to force in a run. Ump made the ruling Dick made no effort to avoid the pitch and called it a ball.

Blame goes to both Tabata for breaking the rule and the ump for not enforcing it.

there are too many unwritten rules in baseball for sure, but what aybar did, what ben davis did to the diamondbacks years ago, and what tabata did today are not the same things at all. what he did today was definitely bush league. it's the score that makes all the difference.
