The taxpayers of San Diego County built one of the nicest ballparks in MLB to be used by the Padres. They have that going for them. They also have the second cheapest beverages in the Majors only behind the DBacks. The DBacks win that category by far, however. Plus in the case of the DBacks it's not just light beers that are semi-reasonably priced. Even their good draft beers are cheap by stadium standards, for example an $8.50 drink in AZ would be $13.00 in Anaheim.

They aren't that far back. He always had crappy teams and had them playing above their heads the 2nd half. He finaly has a decent team and not even given a full season chance.

Couldn't agree more. It's pretty bullshit. I can see expecting them to contend, but they also have a tough division.

They keep him around when they don't give a shit about fielding a solid team and when they do he's done halfway in. Pretty shitty.

Its the second lowest cost index in the league, I believe. Az being the cheapest in the league overall.

bud black is a nice guy and a professional baseball man, but he is a significantly worse manager than scioscia. i'm not a guy who thinks scioscia is king shit either, but he's one of the better managers in mlb.

Fire Butcher and throw whatever money (short of Sosh's yearly salary) at Bud to entice him to return as pitching coach.

 

NOOOO other pitching coach could have possibly led the 2002 staff to nearly have the best ERA in the AL (.01 behind the A'th).
