He was 93 years old, so it's not huge shock but it does suck. I'm a big fan a ton of the Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing Hammer films, and random non-Hammer movies like The Wicker Man, City of the Dead and The Man with the Golden Gun. Most famous recently now for The Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars prequels.

RIP. One of the best villains of all time. I read he also produced a couple of heavy metal songs in his 90's that's awesome.

He was such an underrated actor.  There wasn't a character he did that I didn't like.

 

He was also in the SAS during WWII and wouldn't say anything about the missions he was on.  A class act.
