"The problems, to be sure, do not preclude finishing the system, Flyvbjerg said. Experts close to the project estimate future costs could be covered roughly by a 20-cent-a-gallon gas tax or a half-cent sales tax or a 6% state income tax surcharge — though any of those would be a huge lift for Newsom and other Democrats focused on other progressive issues."

those effers are going to raise our taxes again for a project that none of us want or need. screw them.

Lol.  People can't be that stupid again right?  They even spell it out that if they raise the taxes to finish this boondoggle, they are already going to misappropriate it to some other unicorn.

BREAKING: Gov. Newsom is ending the crazy train project.

Wow, I didn't expect that.

Good for him!

I would also be interested to know his ideas about juvenile justice.  I think the entire justice system is hopelessly broken.

A slight correction to my post: He's ending the SF to LA part of the route but keeping the Central Valley portion of the project. You will be able to ride some high-speed rail between Merced and Bakersfield, when and if it ever gets finished.

But still, a great decision that will save taxpayers many billions of dollars.

That's actually a reasonable compromise.   Finish what they started, but that's it.  And is it to Bakersfield, or just to Fresno or Merced or some no where place like currently in progress?

Republicans have a way easier time in politics. Their base is middle-aged white religious folks.

The Dems have to juggle jews, gays, muslims, blacks, environmentalists, socialists, bankers... Impressive how they're able to get all those people to vote that way considering their collective interests typically don't mesh with the others'

It’s easy to do when you just promise free shit.
