Come do a day of wine tasting with my crew in Napa and you'll be converted real quick.

Wine is amazing.

I agree.

If I'm at the bar I'll almost always order a whiskey or vodka beverage. If I'm at home or dinner, it's always red wine. I love doing wine tastings with friends or the significant other too.

I enjoy an IPA as much as the next guy, but let's not kid ourselves why we all enjoy them.

At upwards of triple the booze of a domestic light we can say, "look honey, I only had three beers at the party." We look responsible and yet still get a 9 beer buzz going.

I have noticed a lot of IPAs lately with sub-5 alcohol content. It is an alarming trend.

My palate is very dull. It takes a lot of bite for me to enjoy a beer. I tend to lean towards beers with 9+ ABV and/or 70+ IBUs. The Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine series is a solid for me at 11.6 ABV. 1.6 pint does the job.  I can also enjoy a Fat tire, Sierra Nevada, Negro Modelo, every once in a while.

I don't do hard alcohol all that much, but when I get comp'd drinks in the casino I like to order a dirty martini straight up w/ gin (bombay sapphire). Two of those and I'm feeling good.

ipa is still super popular

i don't care for most of them

if you want a lot of flavor, good stouts are the way to go

Yeah same for me.  Not a fan of the IPA's but enjoy stouts and porters.

  • 2 weeks later...

For those that like rum check out El Dorado 21 year. My sister lives in Guyana and brings me a bottle of either their 15 year or 21 year stuff when she's back in the states. The viscosity of the drink alone is awesome. I kind of want to hang with Slappy too

Beer: IPA's, Imperial's, Double's, Red IPA's though I enjoy many kinds of Beer~

Spirits:

I do enjoy a Fire Ball shot or 6....from time to time.

Tequila: Patron - I tend to stay top shelf here. Bad experience with Jose'....

Vodka: Kettle One/GG ----Dirty Martini's w/3 Olives Stuffed with Blue Cheese.

Bourbon: Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig 21yr, Knob Creek, Bookers.

Scotch: MacCallan 18yr, Anything from the Highlands (aged) though I also enjoy some Islay's - predominately smoother/less peat. Some of the Islay's are delicious.

Rum: Ron Centenario Gran Reserva, Pyrat XO Reserve, Mount Gay Extra Old, Myers/Gosling's Black Seal - for Mixing Pina Coladas, Sailor Jerry - For Coke.

Cognac: Pierre Ferrand 150yr, 75y, 25yr, 20yr, 10yr. - Was friends with the Importer and became hooked.... The 150yr was a gift from the Ferrand family to me in a hand blown glass bottle. They also gave me a 500ml. of their 250yr old....It was like sipping heaven.....

Red Wine: Left Bank Bordeaux (Cab base), Big Robust Napa Cab's, Amarone's, Fruit forward Red Zin's, Big Merlot's, Bordeaux style Red Blends. Ruby Ports

White Wine: Oak forward Chards.....**Note** Absolutely, despise any kind of Citrus forward light whites. Just not my palate~

My famous Party Cocktail:

Summer Play: The Panty Dropper Margarita for the ladies~ My wife and her girlfriend named this.....

Martini Shaker - 3/4 Filled with ice

3-4 fingers Tequila

Fill the remainder half of the shaker with Lime Juice. **(I have found fresh squeezed which tastes better than a large format bottle).**

1/2 whole fresh squeezed Oranges depends on the amount of juice you get... (I use it for the garnish afterwards....You could roll with OJ with Pulp if you do this add a 1/4 space of the remainder of OJ in the shaker).

2oz. Grand Marnier/Orange Liqueur

--Shake--

Pour into a tall plastic Ice Tea tumbler (salted rim) over Ice with a slice or two of the Orange rind with pulp for sweetness.

Floater of Cognac! Just to turn the top a light amber~

Two and done....Good Night~

The floater of cognac is a nice innovation. I'm gonna try that. Have you tried key lime juice?

Beer: I like wheats, so Shock Top or Blue Moon. There are too many craft beers that I can't keep up with and to me all taste the same. If I'm tailgating I'll drink Bud Light or Coors light.

Liquor: I like whiskey. Jack and coke or crown and coke are my go to if I had to pick one liquor. Lately I've been trying to lose weight so I'll do vodka with soda water and a splash of something else to give it a little more taste.

I usually only drink maybe once a week on the weekend. Once in a great while me and the girly will go out for a few drinks on a weekday. I'm a Sunday funday kind of guy though. I would rather go out on a Sunday afternoon and hangout and watch some games on TV rather than go out on a Fri or Sat evening.

@Eleven~

No, I have not tried the Key Lime juice. But, I never really thought of it either....I know Key Limes get sweeter as they age on the tree and yellow....But, how much sweeter they are than a regular lime I'm not sure... And I don't know if the Key Limes are processed when they are yellow or green which would make a more sour/bitter flavor.

The key is the balance of bitterness from the Lime juice and the sweetness you'll get from the OJ and the Orange Liqueur....I've even added a pinch of two of salt to the shaker.... A friend of mine uses a spoonful of bar sweetner if his is too bitter.

You could also use Sweet n Sour bar mix in place of the Lime juice. Then add and squeeze couple of lime wedges into the shaker to get some of the pulp in there ..

I've used Top Shelf silver tequila's down to Sauza Silver and even the one at Bevmo with the Deer on it...I forget the name of it. ****Cazadores!!!!!!

It's more of a Mad Scientist Margarita concoction/jungle juice from college and the point is to taste as you go and roll for balance of the Citrus juice as it will cover the taste of the Tequila so the buzz sneaks up on you then smacks you in the mouth.

I've never tried it with an Anejo' as I'd rather sip the good ones over ice.

I like the sweet/tart flavor thing too. The key lime definitely brings out both. I prefer a 50/50 mix of fresh squeezed sour limes with the sweeter key limes, and to balance it with Contreau.

I will try the OJ and the cognac floater this 4th of July.

****ing Cazodores is also my go to mixer tequila. Very smooth for the cheaper stuff.
