Round 19, P Aaron Cox, Gannon University, PA.

11.23 K/9...  This kid went to Millville HS, same as Trout...  I think it's his GF's brother.

Yep, it's the brother of Trout's GF. Angels smartly trying to keep Trout as happy as possible. Now they just need to get more talent around him

LOL... 11 straight college seniors since the 20th round.

I really hope they find a more equitable way to handle the signing bonus pool in the next CBA.

Yikes!

Might as well just go with the minor leaguers we already had.

Picking pitchers that low, they aren't going to have the money to sign away a high ceiling HS kid. And, since they went bat heavy, they went with more experienced pitchers to round out their teams so that they can develop their bats until they catch up to the pitching in the system. Remember, it takes 25 guys to maybe develop 1 Major League player. You want to have the best possible team around the guys you are developing to make that one or two who will make it that much better.

I'm not upset with this.

I wasn't faulting them for it -- if you had read this thread then you may have seen where I predicted they would be going after college seniors, I get how it works and I understand the situation the Angels are in.

I do however find a system that penalizes teams for succeeding to be poorly thought out.  I get the idea of competitive balance, I don't particularly care for a system that dings you for winning.

Making the pick order come from the reverse order of the standings is reasonable, but the amount of allotted money for bonuses should fall off only gradually, if at all. The following meteoric fall off in slot bonus money for the first ten rounds is outrageous:

Astros -- $17,289,200

Rockies -- $13,989,800

D-backs -- $12,816,100

Braves -- $10,684,100

Rangers -- $9,099,900

Yankees -- $7,885,000

Dodgers -- $7,781,700

Reds -- $7,777,900

Brewers -- $7,743,800

Giants -- $7,515,500

Pirates -- $7,392,200

Twins -- $7,388,700

Cardinals -- $7,387,600

Cubs -- $7,236,100

Indians -- $7,234,200

Royals -- $7,206,700

Tigers -- $7,114,300

Phillies -- $7,058,500

Orioles -- $6,850,400

Marlins -- $6,766,400

Rays -- $6,591,300

Red Sox -- $6,223,800

Athletics -- $5,444,100

Blue Jays -- $5,411,000

White Sox -- $5,347,500

Angels -- $5,050,100

Mariners -- $4,186,900

Nationals -- $4,102,700

Padres -- $3,671,200

Mets -- $3,587,800

Under the current system the team that finishes DFL gets 30% more money than the second worst team. That's serious incentive for non playoff-contending teams to tank to the point of making mockery of the game.

I also think they should go back to the old scheme of keeping AL and NL records separate, make pick order and slot money be assigned based on reverse standings in each league separately. Have a coin toss to determine which league gets first overall pick.

Yup, it's a tad excessive.

Looks like the pay structures they used to have in poker tournaments...before they "flattened" the payouts.

Okay, I'm confused.

Why do the Mets have the smallest amount, and the ChiSox barely have more than the Halos?

Shouldn't both have significantly more than the Halos?

They lost picks for signing FAs..   The Angels had the last pick in the first round at number 26, the reason they weren't picking at 30 is because teams signed FAs and lost their first rounder.

When you lose a pick, you also lose the $ attached to the slot position.

This gif was great then and great now...

BTW -- Taylor, you're right -- really is great to go back and re-read this.   Also worth looking at how some of the guys people wanted have done.  Daz Cameron has been awful -- DJ Peterson is still fluffy and hasnt shown much of anything...
