First Church of Cannabis

Indiana's First Church of Cannabis -- a religious sect that embraces marijuana use as a sacrament, newly formed under the state's controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act -- has just received the classification that so many religious organizations covet: tax-exemption status under section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.

Interesting ... wondering what Sunday service is like? Is this a adult only church? Does Hamilton lead the congregation in prayer?

Years ago when I worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, an inmate in my facility tried to create a church in which smoking marijuana was a central part of worship, so that he could then sue for denial of religious freedom if the ODOC did not allow him to have marijuana in prison. The Essene Order of the Holy American Church didn't gain any traction in federal court, nor did its founder, Jean L'Aquarius (legal incarcerated name John Lewellyn).
