Monty was not a good in-game coach, as witnessed during that Game 3 vs. the Warriors. Williams was supposedly a great defensive coach but the Pelicans were pretty bad in that aspect. Probably best to try a new coaching approach.

Williams isn't a good coach at all. He hardly ever uses his bench and relies on Davis way too much. 

 

I went to a Clipper vs Pelicans game earlier this year and in the 1st quarter Luke Babbitt had 3-4 threes and the pelicans were rolling. Once Babbitt checks out in the 1st he doesn't see the court again until the 3rd quarter... That told me all I needed to know about Monty as a Head Coach. Yes his team made the Playoffs in the west which is hard enough  as is but Monty just isn't a good coach.

Looks like they hired Gentry, which could make for a very entertaining offensive team.
