Anyone else worried about Houston Street (Part II)

Recommended Posts

I put part of the blame on this pathetic putrid offense, which is forcing him to be used far too often. He has never pitched in a ton of games, and been successful in the long run.

The offense as put the entire pitching staff in a bind. They have to pitch perfect (not the movie) every night. There is no room for error for either sp or rp. Unless you have the kc Royals pen we're gonna blow some games.

I maybe mistaken but didn't he just go through ten straight scoreless appearances prior to the last two games? That is losing it fast.

typical closer -- they tend to melt down to zero effectiveness at some point in their career.

and they tend to lose it fast........

Halos need to move to a closer by committee system and give Joe Smith a chance to close out some games.

OK hindsight moy. Who would have pitched to close? And if you say Smith (ignoring that Smith hasn't been the sharpest lately) who would have pitched in the 8th?

He pitch 25 itches last night. This was on Mike. Street should have rested. Now tommorrow we have no Smith or Street.

The first few years of Street's career with Oakland, he was a terrible closer.  He had 94 saves and 27 blown saves.  This despite good to average ERA's, good strikeout numbers, low BB's, and low HR's.  He was just a head case.

He improved considerably as a closer while pitching for Colorado and San Diego.  And he was awesome with the Angels last year.

I don't think his problems are physical.  He seems like a smart guy who is probably overthinking things.

Salas in 8th Joe in 9th. Wednesday Joe seemed fine.  Rest Street.  Friday use Morin 8th Street in 9th , Saturday use Street and Joe . Sunday hope for a mother's day blowout.

There was no hindsight. It was obvious Street was tired.

Scoscia catches hell for having Salas on the team. And your suggesting he should have used him in the 8th. Smith got roughed up two games previous and was in his third game. Morin? Have you seen his performance this year or ate you just willing to say anything to bash Scioscia. Had the Angels followed your hindsight use of the pen the Angeles probably would have lost all three games.

In Salas last 5 games, Salas allowed 0 runs and 2 hits. 3 of those games Salas Pitched in the 8th.In Mike's last 6 games he has allowed only one run. Please look at the stats. Clearly, you are going based upon emotion.

On MLB tonight Harold Reynolds made the comment that both Street and Smith are right handed and not high velocity; kinda similar. He says hitters can start to time it and predict pitches.

He preferred the combo the Yankees have with Betances and Miller, right and left, a different look.

Not sure if I agree but first I've heard that.
