At what point do we acknowledge that this guy has been ridiculously good going on his 3rd year straight.  

 

7ip 1h, 0 er, 2bb, 5k in his AAA debut tonight.  

 

I know the book on him is that his stuff doesn't play as a starter going forward and that he began last year as a reliever until he was thrust into a starting role.  

 

I guess my point is that sometimes you need to look beyond projectability and look at the actual results.  

 

Tyler's are frankly pretty outstanding.  

 

One stat that seems to translate pretty well is SO/H per 9 innings.  His ratio is > than 1 which is damn impressive.

Saw him back at IE. Just pounded the strikezone, similar to Shoemaker. Got that big body durability factor in his favor as well. Very smooth and in control. I liked what I saw.

I want to have a positive outlook for him and see him succeed.  The numbers don't lie, really.  It's just, he only pitches from the stretch, which is abnormal but not unheard of for a starter.  But the delivery itself is so unorthodox, almost like he's never thrown a baseball before.  Then there's the velocity to consider, sitting in the mid 80's. 

 

Basically everything I think I know about assessing a pitcher says this guy is only a reliever, and he's only having success because the lack of refined, professional hitters. 

 

But again, what matters is winning.  This guy puts his team into position to win almost every time he's on the mound. So I guess what I'm saying is....I don't know lol.
