If we put some talent around Calhoun and Trout...

Recommended Posts

Seriously how many more plate appearances does a #2 get more than a number 3 through the whole season. Can't be that many to really make a difference.

Theoretically 1 every 9 games. About 18 PAs. Or 6 innings of only Mike Trout PAs. Or about 4 games with of PAs Trout is missing.

But by the same stretch how many more times is Trout hitting with the 1 and 2 hitter on base compared to with the 9 and 1 hitter on base.

The amount will be more for a team that has better than average offense like the angels in 2014. More total plate appearances means the difference is more

They do need to add position player talent around these two guys. I don't know how anyone can say they don't.  Pujols is old and basically gets worse every year from here on out. Aybar is solid but on the wrong side of 30 now. Iannetta is a decent bat but average as an all around catcher. Left field position is a mess in which they have 30 million a season tied up in a guy who can't get on the field. DH is whatever. Could be better but not worth crying about. Freese is an average player that will need to be upgraded on as he is also pretty damn old and nonathletic at 3rd.  2B right now is being filled by utility players that have never hit much in their careers. Again...going to need a solution there at some point.

So yes, they do need to start drafting and developing position players at a far more successful rate than they have been the last 4 years. Especially infielders. The lack of talent to come through the system on the infield since Morales, Kotchman, Wood, Aybar, and Kendrick were all coming up together is alarming and almost embarrassing.

Yes but it was just that, speculation. Also just a hunch that speculation started during an 0-3 game with a K and a DP.

That really narrows the possibilities doesn't it...?

Trout or Pujols hitting a buck fifty or so and a DP machine...let's see, who would I rather pitch to with the game on the line?  Hinch should get an IQ test for pitching to Trout.  Trout will lead the AL in intentional walks.

about 20 plate appearances less for each spot lower in the lineup
