Blackout Policy Suspended for 2015 Season

Are you paying attention, MLB?

Blackouts had already been proven years ago to be ineffective for the purpose for which they were invented - preserving ticket sales in the local market for games not already sold out. About time that at least one major sports league saw the folly in blackouts. All they do is keep people from watching your games and kill interest.

I don't think the NHL has blackouts.  They just put it on channels that not everyone has.  Just like the Doggies.

Bucs jags raiders rams and bolt fans rejoice

In the case of Jacksonville, attendance has been down because the team has been bad. Also, the stadium was built much larger than it normally would have been the case for a city that size because of Georgia-Florida and the Gator Bowl Game.

In the past, local businesses sometimes bought the remaining tickets so that the game would be televised locally.

I'll see your three teams and raise you three. Teams in our MLB blackout area in Las Vegas:

Dodgers

Angels

Giants

Athletics

Padres

Diamondbacks

Precisely why I haven't spent a dime on MLB.TV or MLB Extra Innings since I was once duped by their promise of all of these out-of-market games. At the time I had no idea that they considered 20 percent of MLB "in market" even though I'm more than four hours from the nearest MLB stadium.

Being in Vegas and Oregon (I'm assuming) how the heck do you watch these teams ?

Essentially you don't, unless they happen to be on the local Fox network. They even black out replays of spring training games. It's pretty sad when you can't get the telecast on the MLB Network, but it happens pretty often.
