Yep, Brunansky for Corbett and Wilfong was not good ultimately.   At least Wilfong and Corbett contributed in 1986, although Wilfong's failure to take 2B on the throw home to try to get Jones in the 9th inning was costly, as Schofield's single to RF might have won the ALCS then.

There were over 64,000 people in the Big A that day that watched Ruppert Jones score the tying run on a close play at the plate. I happened to be one of them. Unfortunately, so was Wilfong. I still remembering looking at first base and saying to my brother "What the f*** is Wilfong doing on first base!"

2000 had

1. Darin Erstad

2. Adam Kennedy

3. Mo Vaughn

4. Tim Salmon

5. Garret Anderson

6. Troy Glaus

7. Scott Spiezio

8. Bengie Molina

9. Benji Gil

That's the year Erstad hit .355, Kennedy drove in over 70 runs, and... oh yeah, Vaughn, Salmon, Anderson, and Glaus were the first time any team had 4 players hit 30+ homers (Glaus led the league with 47).

If that team had ANY pitching at all (and-- spoiler alert-- it didn't), they could have won the West and been a serious WS contender. Unfortunately, while that team scored a whopping 864 runs, they gave up 869. So that awesome lineup managed 82 wins.

They also finished 7th in runs scored that year...

Gale Wade, CF (.292, 20, 67)

Gene Mauch, 2B (.348, 20, 84)

Jim Bolger, LF (.326, 28, 147)

Steve Bilko, 1B (.360, 55, 164)

George Freese, 3B (.291, 22, 113)

Bob Speake, RF (.300, 25, 111)

Casey Wise, SS (.287, 7, 60)

Elvin Tappe, C (.267, 3, 36)

Rotation of Dave Hillman (21-7), Gene Fodge (19-7), Dick Drott (13-10) and Bob Anderson (12-4}.

This juggernaut was 107 and 61 and  won the PCL title by 16 games over the still stunned Seattle Rainers.

SHOCKING !!!

It still irks me that GA got robbed of the AL RoY in 1995 to....Marty Cordova.

1992 was quite memorable:

Polonia

Felix

Hayes

Brooks

Stevens

Gaetti

Sojo

Parish

Discar

oh my!!!

That was the year Gaetti "led" the Angels with 12 HR and Junior Felix "led" the Angels with 72 RBI.  The team's pitching was legit, though.  Didn't Jim Abbott go 7-15 despite a 2.77 ERA?
