Green only had consistent playing time for one month in 2014. That was in May when Freese was injured.

He hit .367/.381/.483 .864 OPS in 20 games(60abs).

The next 3 months. He played a total of 22 games with only 38 at bats.

unsurprisingly. He struggled. hitting .132/.128/.158.

38 at bats in 3 months......

I believe they sent him down and recalled him every now and then too...

I think in Green's case they need to do with him what they did with Richards.  Stop treating him like a yo-yo that goes between the Anaheim bench and lineup in Salt Lake.  Just take that leap and stick him in the lineup and stop messing with him.

As for Rasmus, much as I'd love to see him in the rotation, I like Heaney and Tropeano in that spot more.

Rasmus will be a huge key as the 3rd guy in the pen that can pitch 2 innings effectively when needed.

It couldn't hurt to just stick Green in the lineup and see what he does.   Then if he struggles the first month, experiment over.

usually a reason that a player get buried on the depth chart, and it has nothing to do with luck.

Yes, because there's never been any example of a guy going to another team and succeeding when given a shot...

Did you become an Angels fan yesterday? That's this organization's MO

I wanted to see Rasmus in the rotation before the acquisition of Heaney. I think he'd make a nice mid-rotation arm with his four above average pitches and improved command.

As for Green, I'm not a fan. He's a poor defender who doesn't offer much on the offensive side. He has no power, doesn't get on base or steal any bags. The only thing he can do is hit for a decent average.

Neither are buried on the depth chart. Neither of them have been around that long, either.

Rasmus has earned a role.  Green has not, but he has the opportunity to do so.

I love Rasmus as a super long reliever. Him and Santiago could create a unique lefty/righty, multi-inning, mid-to-late inning tandem in the mid or back end of the pen. They create a TON of flexibility and can spot-start whenever needed. Even then you potentially have Tropeano and Alvarez stashed in Salt Lake. Green will get his chance, I just think it's after Rutledge loses his. Man it sucks not having Howie.

Can't catch a break? I really don't like the title. Ya they wouldn't catch a break if the angels signed a 2b or a solid pen arm that's blocking them.

Title should read...Rasmus and green try to seize moment.

Imo their fate is in their hands

Speaking of Alvarez, does anyone know his status? Does anyone even know what his injury was last year? I can't find anything online, and he seemed to be a guy with some potential.

Rutledge loses his ... Wtf

Is there anyone here on the Rutledge bandwagon besides myself? I've have yet to hear anyone here say something positive about our newest Angel.

I am excited to see what he can do, and have been perplexed at all the hatred shown toward him. The guy has never had an at bat as an Angel, and yet people despise him.

Well I hope he does well because we gave up a nice arm for him.

I think I'm partially responsible for the cloudy outlook on Rutledge.  Honestly, I just don't see any upside other than potentially hitting for average.  Below average defensively, no real speed to speak of, no power, low OBP.

I think when I look at Green I see essentially the same player but with more power and speed. Then again, Featherston has them all beat defensively and in the speed and power department.

I think all 3 guys vying for the 2B job are going to suck. Just my opinion.

But they have until July 31st to find someone adequate. Someone will be looking to sell a decent 2B at some point, and if we're in the thick of things like we should we could pick him up. Similar situation to the Giants picking up Scutaro in 2012

here is why I think there is a lot of preconceived negativity regarding rutledge:

he seems rather redundant to the three other guys who will be vying for the second base job yet we gave up something with value to get him whereas the others were obtained without losing anything.

Now, it could turn out that Rutledge is actually better than the three others, but by all accounts, he's likely not.  And if he is, it's marginal.  What you pay for a player creates expectations for that player whether we like it or not.  Also, we haven't really seen him and his numbers really aren't very impressive.  Finally, he would be replacing a borderline star player in Kendrick.

From my standpoint, he better be an upgrade to Green and the rest of the guys, or what would be the point.  So my expectation is that he should be.

A bunch of factors that aren't totally fair to him, but it is what it is.  I don't hate him, but I can see where people are less likely to cut him some slack.

The one thing that really bothers me about him is his defensive reputation.  I would be more comfortable giving up what we did if we didn't have to worry about his defense and you could give him a shot to let his bat develop.  But only featherston brings a solid defensive reputation.  If we are going to let a player cut his teeth, I'd rather it be only at the plate and not on defense as well.
