Wow...that's the price tag? All the talks were something at least around $40 million and perhaps as high as $50 million. Disappointed that the Angels weren't in on this as they sorely needed a talent like this in their farm system. Meanwhile, Red Sox already stacked farm gets another high end prospect

Missed that. Still think the Angels should have been all over that considering they have needs at 2B/3B in the org. Already went over their international signing limit and will have penalties on what they can spend over the next 2 years, which pretty much eliminates them from signing any legit international prospects. They must really expect Baldoquin to turn into some stud

Everyone is an unknown. Prior performance doesn't mean future performance. Spending $60 million on anyone may be silly.

Certainly prospects are more risky but generally a lot cheaper for the talent they offer.

Not sure I agree with you. A guy who has succeeded for years in the major leagues us probably a safer bet than a guy who is a complete unknown.

With all the 2B we have right now from this winter... if we still had a need here to justify spending 60 mil on a complete unknown, then the other deals were very poor.

It would have been a move aimed at the future, not for this upcoming season or even next season most likely. The long term options at 2b/3b in this org is pretty weak. There's a reason they added a lot of 2B options this winter...it's because none of them are really any good and they're just hoping that something sticks out of the bunch to provide average production.

Disappointed the Angels weren't in at that price, but at least it isn't the a Dodgers or Yanks. I am kind of pissed there wasn't any effort made.

I really hope they're in on Olivera, but something tells me they'll disappoint once more. Lots of talent out there but the Angels are unwilling to get into a bidding war.

Certainly safer but by no means a sure thing. Here is an article on Fox from the fangraphs guys about prospect risk compared to veteran risk.

This guy is riskier than signing a guy like Howie Kendrick but also has more upside at this point in time.
