Angels' Josh Hamilton could be out a month longer than expected

General Manager Jerry Dipoto said Friday that Hamilton, who underwent surgery on the AC joint in his right shoulder on Feb. 4, could be sidelined for a month longer than his initial prognosis of six to eight weeks.

"It could be six to eight weeks, it could be as much as 12 weeks," Dipoto said. "He had a bone shaved down to create less friction in an arthritic shoulder. Until he gets on site and on the field, it's tough to determine how long it will take."

How long then will it take him to figure out what pitches are good to swing at, and what pitches are not? That's the real problem here, not his health.

well, whenever he comes back - a huge IF -- let's make sure that THIS TIME, he does an appropriate re-hab stint at AA and AAA rather than just being inserted into the starting line up.

his 0h so terrible for 13 performance in the post-season series vs. KC still remains an indelible image of the Halos sweep.

Cool, we dont' have to see Josh for even longer. Watching the team play and not seeing Josh on the field it's almost as if they never even signed him. It's a good feeling

see how good you feel now?

that's because you don't have to pay him every two weeks because....

it's not your money

I don't get why people are upset. This bay affects the Angels. Joyce is probably just as good as Hamilton at this point and it opens up a spot for Cron to DH. Whenever a lefty is on the mound put Cowgill in LF.

Hamilton being out is the opposite of a problem. I think at worst it's a slight inconvenience. The defense might suffer a little against RHP, and there might be a tick less HR power. But there will also be better defense against LHP and the OBP is going to come up in any scenario.

I call it a wash really. The only way this matters is if Hamilton comes back as good as ever, then we'll have missed two months of MVP production, but that's probably not coming back.

I don't think we'll miss him. What will will miss is his potential upside... the hope that we got the player who played in Arlington... We probably don't have that even if he plays.
