Chargers, Raiders discuss plan to share new stadium in Carson

Two football teams in the same stadium makes sense. There are only 8 home games per season, this would raise that to 18 regular season games. A better chance of getting a return on the structural investment.

The Raiders and Chargers are not those two teams, the fan bases already hate each other and it drops two AFC teams into the same market.

Since they're division rivals they get a travel-free road game every year. Bonus

Twice!

One of the two teams would apparently have to go the NFC West.

Prediction:

Rams and Chargers will get their new stadiums in their current cities. Oakland will be stuck in their current stadium.

One of the teams would have to change conference. A report out of Indy said it would be the Raiders. Also the NFL will only allow at most 2 teams so it will probably be deciding between the two plans.

But either way the stadium would hold 16 home games and not 18. Still better than 8.

Al davis would roll over in his grave if the raiders joined the nfc

He never wanted the merger with the nfl to begin with

And boy was he right about that! Think about how much better the Raiders and football in general would be if there wasn't the merger.

I would fly in just to be at a Charger/Raider game.  It would be a very interesting crowd.

if by interesting you mean "i would not want to attend a game with lots of gangsters and convicts", then yes, you are completely right.

So would the Seahawks go back to the AFC West if the Raiders made the swap to the NFC?

Imagine a division with the Seahawks, Broncos, Chiefs, and Chargers. Talk about tough.

I'm sure the NFL wants different conferences, but was reading an article that basically said all three teams could move to the same stadium if they want. The precedent was set when Al Davis took the NFL to court on antitrust laws and won to move the team from Oakland to LA in the 80s. The same thing could happen again. Owners are free to move their teams wherever they want, the NFL would have to work around them opposed to the owners having to work within NFL parameters.
