Stan Chambers Passed Away

I posted it a while ago but Stan Chambers was the first on the spot live news reporter in Television history when he covered the story of a young girl who fell down a well in 1949. In 1952 he did a live report of an atomic bomb test. If there was a big story, Stan Chambers was there, from the Bel Air fires to the Rodney King beating.

Late in his career KTLA sent him on a lot of silly remotes like a Tsunami watch on the edge of the Santa Monica pier. If there had been a real chance of a Tsunami the beachside would have been evacuated but sensationalism demanded Stan stand out there and report mild surf conditions.

For 63 years he was a reporter for KTLA, making him the longest tenured on air reporter in Los Angeles history and never once did he claim his helicopter was hit by an RPG.

Was at the beach once while he was there doing a story. He was wearing a full suit and dress shoes while tramping through the sand. Very nice guy in person, and always warm and sincere on the air.

My FIL looks a lot like him.

He looks like a 91 year old corpse?
