All sarcasm aside, I'd be completely in favor of doing something about this right now.  Democrats should take the initiative and take the issue away from the republicans.  In theory I see nothing wrong with requiring an ID to vote.  In practice though, I tend to see its application as a way to keep certain people (wink wink) from voting.  If you were to pass some sort of voter ID law that takes effect in January and is universal, then nobody would be able to have a legitimate complaint.  Right?
