Man Hit in the Head with Bat at Softball Tournament

Huge bummer. This guy was walking behind the dugout when a bat slipped out of someone's hands and nailed him in the head. He had some swelling and needed brain surgery. Good on the Padres for making his recovery a little brighter.

This is a tragic freak accident. Hope the guy recovers.

My youngest son was a ball magnet in little League. Off target practice throws, wild pitchers, bad hop ground balls all seemed to find him. He was walking from one end of the bench to another behind the fence and got nailed straight in the back with a foul ball. That was pretty much the end of his desire to play the game.

In 1998 I was at a game at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. A woman on my row, about four seats away, was nailed in the side of the head when a batter for the Albuquerque Dukes lined a ball foul into the stands down the left field line. Had my seats been about four spots further over I might have prevented the injury. I had my glove, and even if I hadn't snagged it on a line I could have slowed it down enough so that she wouldn't have been injured. As it was she was taken away by ambulance
