Game 1 the 'Bunt'

Troll Daddy

Recommended Posts

This is so obviously a troll thread, but I'll play along anyway:

1) Never bunt on a 3-1 count

2) Even if he got it down they would have pitched around our best hitter (Trout)

3) Giving up an out is mathematically proven to reduce your chance of scoring

Horrible decision that may have cost us a playoff game.

There's no right or wrong answer. There were a few good arguments but most managers call for the bunt in the 8th in a tie game with Trout and Pujols coming up.

No way they walk Trout to get to Pujols with Wade Davis on the mound.

They would sure as hell walk Trout. It is a tie ball game so the one run that actually matters is the runner on second. That is the only guy you are worried about scoring at this time in the game. If you walk Trout and he scores, you are worse for wear, but you are still losing just like you would have been if he was not on first.

There is no logic behind pitching to Trout. You are basically saying the odd's of Trout hitting a single are worse than the odd's of Pujols hitting a single, which is not the case.
