Useless business claims

Recommended Posts

"We'll send you a FREE informational DVD" (without revealing the price) -- that's a total deal breaker.  I'm sure it's too expensive.  They do this to obtain your contact information.  You'll be hassled by mail and telephone to purchase later.

Or the places that say that you can have a free sample of their product, and the first thing they want is a credit card number so that they can start making automatic shipments and bill you without you knowing it until after it's done.

insured.  Post office insurance specifically.  It could take a month to get there.  They only insure that it didn't get totally lost or broken.  Once you open up a claim, they actually go look for it.  If you never file a claim, it could be in the missing persons pile for years.

About a year and a half ago I got a box that was empty except for the packing list with the end ripped off, in a plastic bag with an apology note from the USPS. When it was shipped the box contained about $200 worth of jewelry from Rocks TV (who unfortunately don't offer insurance to their customers when they ship things). We had ordered several items without an issue. When we called Rocks TV customer service, they told us to contact the USPS. We did, and we filed a stolen mail claim. This is a dead end, as they tell you in the reply letter that there is no one to contact to check the status of your claim. I doubt that much effort went into the "investigation", since they will never have to answer to anyone about it. Basically, the jewelry was stolen by a postal employee.

Time/Life was big on that. The first CD ( tape, record - it went on a long time) was only a few dollars. But they would send you the next one at full price $22.50 every month after that. The collections would take a couple of years to complete.

Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

book clubs and music clubs were notoriously bad at doing this.
