Dodgers give Brett Anderson $10mil/ 1

Interesting for someone who's pitched 120 innings in 3 years.

Thoughts?

Still very young, always pitched really well.  For a team with the Dodgers' deep pocket's it's a pretty smart gamble.   If Anderson pitches like he's capable of then the 14 mil he can earn for staying healthy will likely be a bargain and they will have yet another player they can offer a QO to after next season.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I have not been impressed with what Friedman has done thus far. And giving $58 mil to two pitchers with such lengthy injury histories, while simultaneously trading away a pitcher who never gets injured (and eating his entire salary in the process), is crazy to me.

I like what Friedman has done so far, but agree that this is an awful signing.

A few years ago, Brett Anderson would've gotten a couple million at the most.

Also that McCarthy deal seems like a huge overpay.

Damn after praising Friedman, he's making me look foolish.

I guess that's what an unlimited budget does to someone though.

If the dodgers don't care about wasting money, then who can blame friedman for spending the cash,.

I love how they dumped Kemp because their budget couldn't handle him yet they are still paying him 30 mil and then they pay Haren 10 mil to go away, 48 mil for Mcarthy, and 10 mil for this scrub.

Dumping Kemp had nothing to do with the budget.

They needed to make room for Joc Pederson.

Then why not dump Ethier? Obviously Kemp > Ethier. However Ethier had no trade value and would have cost even more to send off.

I think they wanted to get rid of an everyday player.

I doubt Ethier will play everyday unless someone gets hurt.

Getting rid of Ethier wouldn't have solved anything because Kemp, Crawford and Puig aren't going to sit.

It's a gamble, sure. But with the potential payoff being huge if Anderson meets the incentives for up to an extra $4MM. Anderson gets $14MM if he pitches 200 innings and the incentives start kicking in at 150 IP.

If someone as talented as Anderson gets to 200 IP (or even 150, given his track record), he could be worth so much more than $14MM.

But yeah, he's

I have suggested in other threads that I think the Angels could eat as little as $8 million to trade CJ Wilson. If you were the GM of a team would you rather have Brett Anderson for $10 million or CJ Wilson for two years and $30 million? What is the safer bet? CJ had a terrible 2nd half, there is no denying it, but man, a starting pitcher that has thrown 120 innings over the last 3 years, just got $10 million. I have to believe there is a market for CJ, there absolutely has to be.
