I can tell you right off that he's no more of a shortstop than Grant Green is, much more of a 3B. His swing, his barrel definitely spends a ton of time in the zone and he can turn on the ball or spray it to the opposite field. I don't know much about his discipline or average, but to me it looks like he has legit 15 HR power.

I agree, his bat spends a good deal of time in the zone. Also, from the sample we were given to look at, most of those pitches were well up in the zone. Don't expect major league pitchers to make that mistake for very long, if at all. Pass.

Moncada will take significantly more dollars and is further away.

I wouldn't expect Moncada to take over 2nd next year. I think what we have right now will be fine as a stopgap. I just think this organization needs to go out and continue their mission of "sustainability" and he would go a long way toward that. I'm hearing this kid is the real deal and someone worth paying a high ceiling for especially since we have sacrificed our international money for the next 3 years.

My point was simply that this guy and Moncada are two completely different animals..  Some accounts have Moncada going for as much as 85-100 M, whereas Kang might be someone you get for 2-3 mil per year, plus posting costs.  No tax penalties either.

I have a feeling moncada is going to be super expensive too. Makes puig seem like a deal. Personally, i wanted abreu (even though we needes pitching, i figured we could still sign him and trade a piece for arms). I think thats turned out (so far) as being a good deal. If moncada can be a long term solution at 3B, and we can sign him for 70-80, i personally think its a wise move. Figure trout/calhoun lock up the outfield as young guys. Moncada (if signed), baldoquin and cron at 1b round out a young infield (pujols DH). The rotation is still young.....thats a good spot to be in, with money to lock up the right guys and to add a piece here and there where its needed

I will say this, whoever they sign, the Angels are going to need some offense soon. The pitching staff is locked down for the next 5 years, now let's focus on hitting. We have the pieces to minimize the loss of Kendrick. But Freese is gone after next year and it doesn't seem likely that Pujols and Hamilton will be getting any better. Cron's development should help offset some of that, but they're going to need a bat to slot in at 3B pretty soon.

Whether that be Moncada, Baldoquin, Jang, spending money on a 30-something Freese or even someone like Green or Featherston, all I know is the need will be there.
