Do you think they signed Baldoquin because they knew they were going to trade Howie? Now I think the smart thing to do would be to grab Moncada to replace Aybar.

With Trout and Calhoun in the outfield, Moncada and Baldoquin in the infield, add our newly improved young rotation on top of that. This team all of sudden is built for the future with some vets on the roster instead of the other way around.

I like the idea of Moncada.  His signing doesn't go towards cap, and we already used up our allotment on the international market.

Some teams (Rangers, Cubs and Yankees specifically) were pushing for MLB to not grant Moncada free agent status until July.  That way they would've been able to bid more than 300k for him (each of those teams went over the limit in previous seasons and thus cannot go over 300 k on any prospect this year).  Surprisingly, MLB granted him FA, now they're just waiting on the government. I say surprsingly mostly because money talks and the Yankees have it.  Usually whatever they so, goes.  But MLB went ahead and gave it to him.

I think chances are Moncada will be ready by January 15th.  That doesn't mean the aforementioned teams won't convince him and his agent to wait until July.  If he does, that adds three more big name bidders and likely gets him more money.  But that the same time it's also a year of development lost and Moncada's age is partially why he's so sought after.

I'm guessing the Angels go in on him, but someone with deeper pockets than we have, such as the Dodgers, Red Sox or Yankees end up offering him something insane like 70 million dollars.

if he posts after july the angels are out no matter what, due to the 300k cap being implemented at that time, from my recollection. i don't think the angels have any interest in him anyway, i think it's a non starter from the FO for whatever reason. although, i disagree with them personally, if i'm correct of course.
