Saving Money for 2015?

Wouldn't it be wise to wise to save money for next year's FA? We can save for relatively young pitchers like Zimmerman, Cueto, Porcello, Bud Norris, Latos, Gallardo, Price, and Wei-Yen Chen. Maybe extend Street? David Ortiz? Go after the big fish in Upton? or Bautista(Option should get picked up)?

Probably. This years class is kind of weak (with lester gone).

Many more pitchers are available next off-season as FAs. 

Scherzer will command the moon.    Not big game James Shields will command a little less than that.    No thank you to either

 

And if the rotation turns out to be set for 2015 next off-season, use the money on another need.

It might also give us a cushion for a mid-season acquisition.

It's wise to save $$$ because you never know when you have to take on a large contract at the trade deadline or if injury hits sooner, before that.

No need to spend the $$ right away unless we are getting a heck of a deal.  Having that breathing room $$ wise allows us to have more flexibility during the season

With all the money that is coming off the books in 2017 and 2018 (Hamilton) I could see them going all out for the 2016 season, perhaps even exceeding the tax threshold.

 

They could still improve the team for next year by spending money, which is part of why they likely traded Howie in the first place.
