Andrew Heaney to Angels for Howie Kendrick

I like this trade. Loved it when Barnes was possibly in - he'd make a great bench player - but still really like it. With Tropeano and now Heaney, all of a sudden the Angels have some depth in the rotation and, best of all, a ton of young starters that will be around for years.

 

I also like that it gives Dipoto some breathing room with the cap. I woudn't be surprised to see Freese flipped and Chase Headley signed.

 

As for Green, don't forget that the Angels have a decent back-up plan in Taylor Lindsey Alex Yarbrough.

Sounds like a good haul, but I'll miss Howie, he was our longest tenured player I believe.  He is a class act, thanks for the memories HK47.

I'm really sad. I can't imagine not seeing Howie come to bat. Howie, Aybar and Weaver have been the one constant since 2008. 

 

Just read a scouting report for Heaney. Sounds like he's very highly touted. Even more than Skaggs was? 

He was ranked the #1 southpaw prospect last year, and supposedly has #2 upside. That for 1 year of Howie? Incredible trade by Dipoto.

 

We now have a surplus of cost controlled, good young pitching. We have at least four more years of Richards, Shoemaker, Skaggs, Tropeano, and Heaney. That is legit depth.

Great trade, Heaney is a stud. Not sure why the Marlins gave him up for Dee Gordon, but then again, they're the Marlins.

I read what everyone is writing and I hope this works out, but all I can think about is when Josh Hamilton gets injured or just plain chokes away into non-existence, Grant Green isn't going to fill in that clean spot they way Howie did, not a chance. I hope Dipo has another trick up his sleeve.

After the 2013 season many people wanted Dipoto fired.  I'm glad we still have him around.  Dude has the balls to make the tough moves and is somehow making the team younger and better despite the Pujols/Wilson/Hamilton contracts.  He good.
