CJ Wilson available for trade...

I think the point of moving Wilson is allocating enough resources to go after one of the Top 3 available, Lester, Scherzer, or Shields.  Say what you want about Wilson, but he's valuable to our team since he fills a rotation spot without a ton of depth to go to.  They only move him to clear money and space for one of those guys.

lester's going to be gone by tonight. scherzer has already turned down insane money, eliminating the angels i'd think. i could see shields fitting the timeline and the budget, but i don't think angel fans would be stoked. he would be an improvement over wilson though.

Am I the only one who thinks that if they trade Wilson it means they are seriously considering going after Lester or Scherzer? Could there really be another reason? Regardless of what you think about Wilson, it isn't like this team is deep as it relates to potential for starters. Would anyone really be surprised if Wilson had an ERA around 3.50 this coming year?

Yes. I would be very surprised if he performed to that level. Go look at his last season month by month. He's done

Jon Lester had a season where he was 9-14 with a 4.8 ERA, I guess he was done then too, right?

IMO CJ Wilson is done. Wilson doesn't have anywhere near the track record Lester has. Lester has had 6 really good MLB seasons. CJ has had 2, maybe 3

CJ picked a good 2 years to have his career years and then cashed in. Arte/Dipoto got suckered into it...it happens

Personally, I prefer CJ on a 2 yr/$38M contract to Lester on a 6 yr/$150M contract.  CJ was maddingly inconsistent last year, but he delivered a number of very good starts.  I don't expect him to be dominate, I am perfectly content to have CJ in the starting rotation next year. Of course, Lester projects to be better, but soon you will end up with an even more expensive problem on your hands.
